The collaborative nature and widespread availability of OSS make it an attractive choice for developers and businesses seeking to accelerate product development and reduce costs. However, these advantages come with significant legal risks.

Unlike proprietary software, open source software is often not thoroughly vetted or fully understood by the IT teams using it. This can lead to hidden legal and compliance risks, including potential exposure to patent and copyright infringement. These issues frequently emerge during due diligence and can delay, complicate, or even derail M&A transactions.
