Kent C. Hess

Associate

Overview

Kent helps clients build patent portfolios that protect innovations in telecommunications and computer technologies. His practice encompasses patent preparation and prosecution in the United States and abroad, with an emphasis on wireless communications and standard-essential patents.

Kent’s technical experience spans cellular and wireless networking, including 5G and Wi-Fi, as well as artificial intelligence and machine learning. Drawing on his background in physics, he works closely with inventors, engineers, and in-house counsel to develop prosecution strategies that account for both the underlying technology and clients’ broader portfolio objectives.

Kent also brings experience litigating patent infringement and trade secret disputes. That background informs his prosecution practice, providing a practical perspective on how claim language and the prosecution record can affect the scope and enforceability of patent rights.
