Volpe Koenig Appoints Douglas Bucklin as Life Sciences and Chemistry Leader in Tandem with Practice Expansion
Volpe Koenig has elevated Shareholder Douglas (“Doug”) J. Bucklin, Ph.D. to group leader of the firm’s Life Sciences and Chemistry practice. Doug’s appointment marks an important milestone as the firm continues to build upon its bench of talent in life sciences and position the practice at the forefront of services for industry innovators seeking to protect their intellectual property.
Doug advises clients on a full spectrum of intellectual property matters, including strategies to secure, protect and defend valuable intellectual property assets in a competitive landscape. His breadth of legal experience includes domestic and foreign patent prosecution, reexamination proceedings, inter partes review, litigation and other inter-partes matters. He regularly counsels clients across a spectrum of life sciences IP, including biologics, pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, genetics, proteins, peptides and cancer therapies.
Before joining the legal profession, Doug worked as a scientist researching the structure-function relationships of biomolecules. That background provides him with a unique ability to approach legal challenges through the lens of a scientist and innovator, delivering practical and technically informed counsel.
Volpe Koenig’s Life Sciences and Chemistry practice includes Ph.D. scientist attorneys and patent professionals with research backgrounds and technical acumen in molecular biology, chemistry, biochemistry and genetics, among other areas. The team has extensive experience working closely with universities, startups and companies of all sizes in procuring intellectual property rights in the United States and globally.
